Mission Statement

The mission of the Business Technology Program at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute is to provide the training necessary for students to be competitive in the workforce by strengthening the basic, occupational, communication, and technical skills required to become economically self-sufficient or to use acquired training as a foundation to higher education.

Technology is constantly changing in the workforce. Office personnel must be highly trained to adjust to the ever-changing technology and meet the demands of the business office environment. The Business Technology Program will prepare students for this ever-changing technology and will provide a realistic view of the procedures, equipment, and activities used in today's modern office.

In the Business Technology Program, students will develop technical skills needed to be successful in the business field. Students will review English skills; keyboard letters, memos, tables, and reports; utilize Microsoft Office 2016 software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher); compose business communication documents; calculate mathematical applications in accounting, interest, percentage, and decimals; acquire accounting knowledge and apply principles for sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations; and operate the 10-key adding machine. Professionalism in work habits, attitudes, attendance, business attire, and teamwork cooperation will also be stressed.

The Business Technology Program prepares students for entry-level positions as accounting assistants, payroll clerks, accounts receivable clerks, accounts payable clerks, inventory clerks, bookkeepers, data entry operators, administrative assistants, word processing clerks, general office clerks, secretaries, and receptionists in practically every type of business and organization.

If you wish to learn more about the Business Technology Program at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute and how this program can open up career opportunities for you, please feel free to call us at 870.633.5411.

Instructor Biography - Michael Borden

My business education and professional work experience in data processing, accounting, and human resources were decisive factors that helped me pursue a teaching career at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute.

As a dedicated business instructor for CRTI for 19 years, I whole-heartedly support the school's mission and advocate vocational-technical education. It is my belief that business students can take the hands-on training they learn at CRTI and apply it toward a rewarding and successful career. I integrate my education, work experience, and real-life experiences in my teaching and provide an environment conducive to learning.

My primary responsibility as an instructor is to see that students are taught pertinent skills so they will become gainfully employed and contribute to society. I conduct my classes as an office setting and manage/supervise the class as an office manager would in a real situation. This gives students the hands-on experience with business applications and stresses the office professional/office manager relationship needed to succeed in the business field.

If you have any questions about the Business Technology program, please contact me at 870.633.5411, Ext. 116 or by email.
