Mission Statement

The mission of the Major Appliance Service Program at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute is to provide the training necessary for students to be competitive in the workforce by strengthening the basic, occupational, communication, and technical skills required to become economically self-sufficient or to use acquired training as a foundation to higher education.

Most everyone has at least one if not more of the following: washer, dryer, refrigerator, cook stove (gas or electric), water heater, dishwasher, garbage disposal, room air conditioner, or microwave oven. What happens when any/all of them just simply stop working or are making unusual sounds? Call a repairman? Why when we can train you to fix the problem yourself!

The Major Appliance Service Program at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute will train you to service, diagnose, and repair all major appliances. We provide classroom and laboratory training. In the lab, you will work on actual non-working appliances. You will learn when and how to use the proper tools, where to locate needed parts, how to remove or repair broken parts, and how to attach new parts.

In order to protect our environment, students are instructed on the proper way to handle refrigerants. Before completing the program, all students will take the EPA certification.

The instructor strives to make learning fun by encouraging students to interact with one another and service technicians who work in the area. By the end of the program, you should have obtained the knowledge and hands on training needed to go to work for yourself.

Instructor Biography - Kevin Brown

I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity to share my trade with others who are looking to enter into this field. I have over 33 years of experience in major household appliance service and repair. This career path I have chosen has been a blessing to me and my family through the years. I have enjoyed every day I have spent on the job.

I am a 1982 graduate from the Major Appliance Service Program at Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute. As a matter of fact, three generations of my family have completed the Major Appliance Program and have established their careers as appliance servicemen.
Now that I have the opportunity to teach others about my craft, my son will operate the business in my absence.

My hope is to have a positive influence on those who attend my class. My expectations are that my students are respectful of others, work hard, and come to class regularly. I hope that they all enjoy learning about the major appliance repair field while attending Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute.
